Programma

Intermittent hypoxia/reoxygenation is an already acquired therapy, but not yet practicable in humans, mostly because “hypoxia” is frightening for patients and ethical committees. However, what confers protection is not hypoxia but rather the reoxygenation. We will work on this idea.

We will work on new cardioprotective targets or signaling pathways, such as NLRP3 inflammasome, NO/cGMP, RISK and SAFE pathway.

We will test novel cardioprotective therapy. As innovative strategies/therapies, we can use nanosponges and microspheres for drug, oxygen and cell delivery. We could also use specific NLRP3 inflammasome inhibitors. We will validate the novel target or therapy in in vitro (e.g. H9c2 cells; adult cardiomyocytes,) and in ex vivo (isolated rat and mice hearts). In collaboration with other groups, we will use innovative strategies (eg –omics etc) for discovering new cardioprotective targets. Hypoxia/hyperoxia/reoxygenation in a hypoxic chamber and treatment with nanosponges or pharmacological active microcarriers are also possible.
